AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor

Mara is a San Diego native whose journey in fitness began in 2000 at the age of 35 when she and her son began studying Taekwondo.  Mara went on to earn her Red Belt and competed in the 2002 and 2003 US National Taekwondo Championships winning four gold medals.

In 2006 Mara, moved to Okinawa, Japan.  There her passion for fitness grew and she studied and became an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and an AFAA Group Exercise Instructor.  Soon after receiving her certifications Mara was hired by Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) to work as a Fitness Coordinator and Group Fitness Director for forward deployed Marines and their families.  Mara was given the unique experience and responsibility of providing nutrition education, designing and implementing numerous exercise programs from basic strength training to combat conditioning, conducting hundreds of unit physical training and group fitness classes for Marines, Navy, Army and Air force personnel and their families.  Mara was instrumental in developing and implementing a new functional fitness program to help prepare Marines for their newly required combat fitness testing.  She also managed and oversaw the group fitness programs for six fitness facilities, over eighty group fitness classes, and thirty plus group fitness instructors. In the two years Mara served with MCCS, she trained and educated over two thousand Marines in health, nutrition and fitness.  Also during her tenure with MCCS Mara continued her education in the field of fitness receiving several more fitness certifications.  Upon leaving Okinawa Mara had earned the reputation for “how-to-do-fitness.”

While in Okinawa Mara learned about Fitness Quest 10 and the great work they were doing.  She had the privilege of visiting San Diego one summer for a NSCA training and made a visit to FQ 10.  After touring the facility and meeting the staff Mara set her sights on working with the best in the industry when she returned to San Diego in 2009.   Mara is an enthusiastic, dedicated professional, who is passionate about fitness both personally and professionally. She continually strives to learn all she can about health and fitness and achieve the highest level for herself.  Mara adopted her philosophy of fitness from Dr. Kenneth Cooper, “Fitness is a journey, not a destination. It must be continued for the rest of your life.”  She is delighted to be a part of the team and family of FQ 10 and looks forward to motivating, educating and inspiring YOU on your journey of fitness!
