Chelsea Ellwood, a native San Diego surfer, let her love of athletics and fitness draw her to Fitness Quest 10 during her days as a high school basketball player in 2002. Her experience here exposed Chelsea to the idea of making a career out of helping athletes fine-tune their fundamentals, so she became increasingly involved in youth service projects. After 4 years of coaching the distance runners on a local club track and field team amongst other activities, her passion for training children was obvious. To pursue this passion, Chelsea studied applied exercise science while running track and field at Springfield College (in Massachusetts) – better known as the original YMCA training school and birthplace of basketball. During the summers, she gained hands-on field experience at Golden Door Fitness Resort and Spa (2007) and Fitness Quest 10 (2008 & 2009). As a college senior, Chelsea immersed herself in the wellness industry by working at Springfield College’s award winning Wellness Center as a facility supervisor, group exercise instructor (mat pilates, spin, circuit training, athletic conditioning), and personal trainer for special populations (diabetes with kidney dialysis, women over 50 years, overweight adults, collegiate athletes). Chelsea graduated magna cum laude from an accelerated three-year program with her bachelors of science in applied exercise science, emphasizing in nutrition and specializing in clinical exercise physiology. It seemed only natural for Chelsea to come knocking on Todd Durkin’s door at the conclusion of her schooling – after all, Fitness Quest 10 is where her journey into health and wellness blossomed. She now lives out her passion for fitness and athletics daily through working as a personal trainer, continuing to further her education within the field, and participating in a wide variety of physical activities and conscious-eating regimens. Chelsea’s mission in life is to help others, especially youth, find joy in life through maintaining their physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. |
